I’m Emma, I live in Co. Mayo in the west of Ireland close to open bogland with a magnificent view across to Croagh Patrick. I live with my husband, four children and our 3 dogs. I am a busy individual by nature, always making or doing, if not making art I can be found in my garden which I totally adore and for which I am constantly planning new planting schemes or adjusting existing ones. I love to read and always have a book on the go and I love to swim for my health and well being. These are my passions.
In 2016 I discovered encaustic paint; pigment mixed with molten beeswax, and something deep inside me was stirred up. Up until then my main medium was watercolour; fluid, transparent, light, watercolour but here was a real challenge, opaque, waxy, super-fast-drying paint which creates the most amazing texture and vibrancy....I was hooked. Since then I have been on a journey, an adventure, this medium excites me. I love the smell of it, the unpredictability of what will happen when I heat the wax with my blow torch or heat gun, it is like as if it is alive..... magic!
My inspiration comes from everywhere, however it is people that intrigue me, their faces, their expressions, the emotions. I am fascinated by and like to just sit and watch people, to simply celebrate the human. I endeavour to create art that is alive, expressive and tells a story.
I hope that you will enjoy my work.
